RESUMO

Chewing lice are hosts to endosymbiotic bacteria as well as themselves being permanent parasites. This offers a unique opportunity to examine the cophylogenetic relationships between three ecologically interconnected organismal groups: birds, chewing lice, and bacteria. Here, we examine the cophylogenetic relationships between lice in the genus Guimaraesiella Eichler, 1949, their endosymbiotic Sodalis-allied bacteria, and a range of bird species from across South China. Both event and distance-based cophylogenetic analyses were explored to compare phylogenies of the three organismal groups. Pair-wise comparisons between lice-endosymbionts and bird-endosymbionts indicated that their evolutionary histories are not independent. However, comparisons between lice and birds, showed mixed results; the distance-based method of ParaFit indicated that their evolutionary histories are not independent, while the event-based method of Jane indicated that their phylogenies were no more congruent than expected by chance. Notably, louse host-switching does not seem to have affected bacterial strains, as conspecific lice sampled from distantly related hosts share bacteria belonging to the same clade.

RESUMO

In this paper, we study the sensitivity-tunable terahertz (THz) liquid/gas biosensor in a coupling prism-three-dimensional Dirac semimetal (3D DSM) multilayer structure. The high sensitivity of the biosensor originates from the sharp reflected peak caused by surface plasmon resonance (SPR) mode. This structure achieves the tunability of sensitivity due to the fact that the reflectance could be modulated by the Fermi energy of 3D DSM. Besides, it is found that the sensitivity curve depends heavily on the structural parameters of 3D DSM. After parameter optimization, we obtained sensitivity over 100°/RIU for liquid biosensor. We believe this simple structure provides a reference idea for realizing high sensitivity and a tunable biosensor device.

RESUMO

Although the cost-reference particle filter (CRPF) has a good advantage in solving the state estimation problem with unknown noise statistical characteristics, its estimation accuracy is still affected by the lack of particle diversity and sensitivity to the particles' initial value. In order to solve these problems of the CRPF, this paper proposed an intelligent cost-reference particle filter algorithm based on multi-population cooperation. A multi-population cooperative resampling strategy based on ring structure was designed. The particles were divided into multiple independent populations upon initialization, and each population generated particles with a different initial distribution. The particles in each population were divided into three different particle sets with high, medium and low weights by the golden section ratio according to the weight. The particle sets with high and medium weights were retained. Then, a cooperative strategy based on Gaussian mutation was designed to resample the low-weight particle set of each population. The high-weight particles of the previous population in the ring structure were randomly selected for Gaussian mutation to replace the low-weight particles in the current population. The low-weight particles of all populations were resampled in turn. The simulation results show that the intelligent CRPF based on multi-population cooperation proposed in this paper can reduce the sensitivity of the CRPF to the particles' initial value and improve the particle diversity in resampling. Compared with the general CRPF and intelligent CRPF with adaptive MH resampling (MH-CRPF), the RMSE and MAE of the proposed method are lower.

RESUMO

Oral immunosuppressant methotrexate (MTX) is an effective method for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). To overcome the defects of clinical application of MTX, poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA), Eudragits® S100 (ES100), chitosan (CS) and hyaluronic acid (HA) were used to structure the MTX-loaded HA-CS/ES100/PLGA nanoparticles (MTX@hCEP). MTX@hCEP had a hydrodynamic particle size of approximately 202.5 nm, narrow size distribution, negative zeta potential (-18.7 mV), and smooth surface morphology. In vitro drug release experiments under simulated gastrointestinal conditions indicated that MTX@hCEP exhibited colonic pH-sensitive drug release properties. The cellular uptake capacity of hCEP nanoparticles was significantly enhanced in RAW 264.7 macrophages. Moreover, we further found that the MTX@hCEP also inhibited the proliferation and the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the LPS-stimulated macrophages. In vivo imaging results not only demonstrated that the accumulated in the colon of colitis mice, but also indicated the extended retention time of MTX in the colon. Additionally, MTX@hCEP alleviated inflammatory symptoms via decreasing the activities of myeloperoxidase and pro-inflammatory factors, promoting mucosal repair in vivo. Collectively, these results clearly demonstrated that MTX@hCEP with properties of colon-specific and macrophages targeting can be exploited as an efficient nanotherapeutic for IBD therapy.

RESUMO

Bulk Dirac semimetal (BDS) has emerged as a "3D graphene" material for the development of optical devices in the past few years. In this study, a BDS-based tunable highly sensitive terahertz (THz) biosensor is proposed by using a Dirac semimetal/Bragg reflector multilayer structure. The high sensitivity of the biosensor originates from the sharp Fano resonance peak caused by coupling the Optical Tamm State (OTS) mode and defect mode. Besides, the sensitivity of the proposed structure is sensitive to the Fermi energy of Dirac semimetal and the refractive index of the sensing medium. The maximum sensitivity of 1022°/RIU is obtained by selecting structural and material parameter appropriately, which has certain competitiveness compared to conventional surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensors. From the standpoint of the fabrication facility and integration, we judged that the BDS-based layered structure has the potential application in biosensor field.

RESUMO

Epidemiology shows that more than 6.8 million people in the world are influenced by inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) each year. IBD is a refractory inflammatory disease, and the disease mainly affects the colon. Shikonin (SK) was originally extracted from traditional Chinese medicine "Zicao" (with an English name Lithospermum erythrorhizon) and found to inhibit inflammation, regulate immunity, and be involved in healing wounds. Herein, we used chitosan (CS), hyaluronic acid (HA), and pH-responsive polymer Eudragits S100 (ES100) to design SK-loaded ES100/HA/CS nanoparticles (SK@SAC) as an oral delivery system to treat the colitis mice. Particle size of SK@SAC was 190.3 nm and drug loading efficiency was 6.6%. SAC nanoparticles accumulated in RAW264.7 macrophages and exhibited colitis-targeted ability by increasing the local drug concentration as well as reducing nonspecific distribution after oral gavage. In TNBS-induced IBD mice, SK@SAC treatment had significant therapeutic effects, regulated of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1ß) and anti-inflammatory cytokines (IL-10 and TGF-ß), and also inhibited COX-2 and iNOS activity. SK@SAC also increased tight junction protein ZO-1 and occludin to some extent. These promising results showed that this novel oral SK-loaded nanoparticle drug delivery system for targeted treatment provides a new strategy for the management of IBD.

RESUMO

Seven new species of chewing lice in the genus PriceiellaGustafsson and Bush, 2017, are described and illustrated based on specimens collected in south China. They are Priceiella (Camurnirmus) tanydrepanus n. sp. from Garrulax castanotis castanotis (Ogilvie-Grant, 1899); Priceiella (Camurnirmus) nanlingensis n. sp. from Garrulax maesi maesi (Oustalet, 1890); Priceiella (Thescelovora) brutifrons n. sp. from Turdinus brevicaudatus stevensi (Kinnear, 1925); Priceiella (Thescelovora) chuae n. sp. from Pellorneum albiventre cinnamomeus (Rippon, 1900); Priceiella (Thescelovora) catanachei n. sp. from Stachyris strialata swinhoei Rothschild, 1903; Priceiella (Thescelovora) dehongensis n. sp. from Stachyris nigriceps yunnanensis La Touche, 1921; and Priceiella (Thescelovora) rotundiceps n. sp. from Pomatorhinus ruficollis styani Seebohm, 1884. Several of these new species constitute the second species of Priceiella known from the host, suggesting that local endemism may be high in this louse genus. We also provide new host records for Priceiella (Thescelovora) coleyaeGustafsson et al., 2018, and Priceiella (Thescelovora) austiniGustafsson et al., 2018, and correct the type host subspecies for the latter. Finally, we amend the subgenus descriptions of CamurnirmusGustafsson and Bush, 2017, and ThescelovoraGustafsson and Bush, 2017. As a result of these changes, Priceiella najeriGustafsson et al., 2018, is moved to subgenus Thescelovora. An updated checklist of the genus Priceiella is provided.

RESUMO

Chitosan (CS)-g-polyacrylamide (PAM) is a highly efficient and environmentally friendly flocculant, which was synthesized through plasma-induced graft copolymerization of CS and acrylamide (AM). The effects of monomer concentration, AM:CS ratio, discharge power, discharge time, post-polymerization temperature, and post-polymerization time on the intrinsic viscosity, grafting ratio, and grafting efficiency of CS-g-PAM were investigated. The optimum conditions of graft copolymerization were as follows: 20% monomer concentration, 7:3 AM:CS ratio, 40 W discharge power, 90 s discharge time, 50°C post-polymerization temperature, and 24 h post-polymerization time. The structural characteristics of CS-g-PAM were characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction. CS-g-PAM exhibited better flocculation efficiency than the commercially available PAM in both diatomite-simulated wastewater and low-turbidity algal water. The optimal turbidity removal efficiency for the diatomite-simulated wastewater was 99.9%, which was obtained with 6 mg L-1 of CS-g-PAM at pH 11.0 and 250 s-1 of velocity gradient. In low-turbidity algal water, the optimal removal efficiencies for chlorophyll-a, turbidity, and COD were 93.6%, 94.5%, and 98.2%, respectively.
